Auxiliary President Jocelyn Shetter presented a check for $60,000 to Butler Health System President and CEO Ken DeFurio at the Auxiliary’s annual meeting held in December. The funds were raised by the Auxiliary over the past year in a variety of ways, including the proceeds from the hospital gift shop.

“We support patient care by donating thousands of hours of volunteer service to the hospital and by providing financial support with the proceeds we earn from various sales and our gift and coffee shop,” says Shetter.

The contribution is part of a five-year commitment of $300,000 toward the hospital’s patient tower building project. “The support of these volunteers is enormous,” says DeFurio, “The gift of their time is priceless, and each piece of equipment funded by our Auxiliary will enhance patient care. Care will be better in Butler County because of them.”

The BMH Auxiliary has over 250 women and men who come from communities throughout Butler County. A separate program for those in high school, the Candy Stripers, has nearly 50 active members. Auxilians and Candy Stripers volunteer throughout the hospital. Auxilians also knit caps for newborns, assist with filing and mailings, contact clergy at a patient’s request, operate the hostess snack cart, register new babies and help with community projects such as health fairs and screenings.
